The mega event of cricket ICC ODI Cricket World Cup is just going to start in India. The last World Cup was in England in 2019. But in India the last World Cup was in 2011 basically it was played in 3 countries including Sri Lanka and Bangladesh but the final was held in Mumbai, India. So it has been 12 years and the World Cup is back in Indian soil.
Let's revisit some best moments of the 2011 World Cup in India.
That was a historical event because South Asian people love cricket and they made that memorable event.
1. Pakistan broke the Aussies streak
Australia was a real power-pack side in ODI in those days. They managed to win the last 2 World Cups consecutive and they were eying the 3rd one under the captaincy of Ricky Ponting. Australia were on the verge of doing so and they were unbeaten in the last 33 World Cup games and then they faced Pakistan in 2011. Pakistan was in good shape in that tournament and they were all over on Australians. Pakistan bowlers fired up and got Australia all out on just 176. Umer Gul the leader of that bowling attack got 3 wickets and spinners did a great job. That was not an easy chase for Pakistan as they lost 6 wickets but they held their nerves to get over the line. Asad Shafiq and Umar Akmal aw them home. That ended Australian domination in the World Cup.

2. South Africa vs India in 2011
India was also the hot favourite side of the tournament and they were going quite well. They played the match against South Africa and scored 296 runs. Sachin Tendulkar scored a century and the match was dominated by Indians for most of the part but in the end, Robin Peterson pulled that match out of the jaws of India. They needed 13 runs in the final over and Robin Peterson did in just 4 balls against Ashish Nehra.That was a shocker for Indian fans.
3. England vs India in 2011
This was the blockbuster and the most epic thriller of the 2011 World Cup. India batted 1st and scored 338 runs. Sachin Tendulkar once again was the star with yet another century and Tim Bresnan got 5 wickets for England. In reply, English caption Andrew Strauss was superb and played the innings of his life. He scored 158 runs and helped his side to tie the match. There was no super over hence the points were shared.
4. England vs Ireland in 2011
England was involved in another thriller contest of that World Cup and it was against Ireland. Ireland came into that tournament with some authority because they defeated Pakistan in the 2007 World Cup so they were underdogs. Against England, they pulled up their socks and thrashed England. England batted 1st and scored 329 runs in 50 overs. The chase was almost over When Ireland was 120/5 but then started a one-man show. Kevin or Brine came with all guns blazing and started to bash English bowlers. He just kept on hitting and hitting boundaries and scored the fastest 100 in World Cup history. That 100 from Brine brought Ireland to the top and England got almost out of the World Cup. This is the most memorable main of the WorldQuarter Final
5. India vs Australia quarter-final 2011
India and Australia were the hot favourite sides of the tournament and unfortunately, they came up against each other in the quarter-final. That was the huge hurdle for Team India towards the trophy but Yuvraj Singh came to the rescue against his favourite opposition. The all-round performance from Yuvraj got India into the semi-final and knocked Australia out of the tournament. Yuvraj got 2 wickets and Scots fine fifty. Australia scored 260 with the help of 100 by Ricky Ponting but that wasn't enough and India chased that down.
6. Pakistan Vs India Semi-final 2011
Pakistan vs India is always a blockbuster game but that match was even bigger. Pakistan defeated West Indies by 10 wickets and India defeated Australia in the quarter-finals. So the morale was high and both sides were equally balanced. India batted 1st in Mohali and Sehwag provided them with a brisk start. Later on, Wahab Riaz went through the batting lineup of India. There was a pin-drop silence when he cleaned up Yuvraj Singh on the 1st delivery. Sachin scored 85 in that match and Pakistan gave him 5 chances. India scored 260 runs which was just a par score.
In the chase, Pakistan's openers started well but then Indian spinners came on. Yuvraj with the ball was really good and Harbhajan Singh was also on fire. Both got 2 wickets each and that pushed Pakistan on the backfoot completely. Pakistan lost that match by 30 runs despite the effort from Misbah ul Haq and India advanced to the final.
7. India vs Sri Lanka the final of 2011
India and Sri Lanka became the 2 best sides of 2011 and they were up against each other in the all-important final in Wankhede on 2nd April 2011. Sri Lanka batted 1st and scored 274/6 runs in 50 overs with the help of a magnificent century from Mahela Jayawardena and some fine hitting from Thisara Perera towards the end. That looked like a fine score with the bowling lineup of Sri Lanka where Malinga and Murlitharan were available.
Malinga got Sachin and Sehwag in the opening spell and Sri Lanka was ahead in the game. Then Gambhir and Kohli built a little partnership. Dilshan got Kohli with a stunner off his own bowling. Then MSDhoni unexpectedly came to the crease and built a partnership with Gambhir. Gambhir got out in the 90s but Dhoni stays there till the end of the game. Yuvraj came to the crease and helped Dhoni to finish things off. Then Dhoni smashed Kulasekara into the stands of Wankhede finishes in style and India lifted the World Cup after 24 years.
That was the 1st instance when the home side won the World Cup. That trend continued after that when Australia won the World Cup in Melbourne and England won in Lord's last one. So what will happen this year just wait and see.
